With a lot of Supernatural horror posters the main character or the evil being is presented to immediately catch the attention the viewers attention making them feel intrigued on to what the monster can do or why the character looks distressed on the cover. The colours supernatural colours use are dark colours such as black, red and white to compliment the colours well for simplicity. Red and black is symbolic for association with the devil letting the audience know to expect horrific circumstances. The blue shades often used in supernatural posters hint at a cold feeling, the undead coming back and feeling no sympathy for the people they are about to trouble the character. When people feel shivers they sometimes feel like something is watching them or there's something wrong.

Todorov's Theory The Narrative Theory Todorov in 1969 produced a theory which he believed to be able to be applied to any film. He believed that all films followed the same narrative pattern. They all went through stages called the equilibrium, disequilibrium, acknowledgement, solving and again equilibrium. There are five stages the narrative can progress through: 1. A state of equilibrium (All is as it should be.) 2. A disruption of that order by an event. 3. A recognition that the disorder has occurred. 4. An attempt to repair the damage of the disruption. 5. A return or restoration of a NEW equilibrium

Typical Story Lines Supernatural Horror tend to use ghosts or supernatural creatures. They almost always end up with all the characters dying which is not usually expected adding a plot twist. One example is paranormal activity where the main characters are haunted and the film ends up with the characters dying or either possessed. Seems to be a reoccurring ending for supernatural horrors. CHARACTERS In most of these films the main character is normally quite young, the other main character is the supernatural being. The characters are terrorized by the unknown and all work together to defeat what they don't know. One character type is the non-believer and refuses to acknowledge that there is a supernatural force threatening their lives, coming across as naïve. SETTINGS The location is normally set at the main characters house. This gives a sense of insecurity to the audience when they are in their own homes demonstrating that nowhere is safe. What is the Supernatural Horror Subgenre? This subgenre is somewhat broad. It can contain anything creepy that isn't found in reality. Examples would be ghosts, demons, zombies, monsters, etc. Different combinations could be made to create a Supernatural horror story villain. A dark force haunts a house that possesses the resident or residents, turning them into zombies. So there is usually multiple factors in a Supernatural story. Sometimes it could just be a single monster like a werewolf. The protagonist usually becomes stranded. All of the things that go bump in the night fall into this expansive subgenre. Ghosts, vampires, and zombies, all of whom have their own subgenres, fall into supernatural horror as well. This is because these creatures so sparked the imaginations of writers when they first appeared in supernatural and inspired more stories about them. A young woman comes home from work and goes to sleep. Later that night a loud sound wakes her up from her sleep and she sees that the attic door has been opened. She goes into the attic to find an out of place box that she hasn't come across before. She finds an unusual medallion and decides to hold on to it a bit longer to investigate her findings. Pictures of previous owners of the house were to be found in the box as well. Little did she know, the box opening would also set free a sinful being ready to cause destruction as it has done for many centuries. Once free the demon starts to continue its routine work of controlling the character till the very end.
