A found-footage horror film featuring stationary, security-style cameras and some handheld work, set out to chronicle a "real life" haunting. Watching footage of other people sleeping … at least until the scary stuff starts happening.
The inconceivably low budget horror flick used its rickety style as a badge of honor, which managed to positively terrify audiences the world over as you really had to wonder: What's happening in my house while I'm asleep?
How will it inspire my film?
I'm going to be using Paranormal Activity as my inspiration as it is one of the most popular and profitable films out there today. Like Paranormal Activity the setting will be at a house with the entity terrorizing the character. We as a group also decided to not write a script or even focus on dialogue as we wanted to direct our attention to the sounds on making a hostile atmosphere for the viewers to be watching.
After a young, middle class couple moves into a suburban 'starter' tract house, they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be somehow demonic but is certainly most active in the middle of the night. Especially when they sleep. Or try to.
Production
Filming was finished in late July, when producer Jason Blum confirmed that it was almost finished shooting. This resulted in the film getting pushed from its original release from October 25, 2013, to January 3, 2014. This was also due to the larger cast and larger/longer production than the other films.Marketing Campaigns
Paranormal Activity: The Marked ones was announced in April 2012 and was teased in Paranormal Activity 4. Paramount screened a short clip after the Paranormal Activity 4's ending credits finished, that showed two friends looking around a Mexican store, who are scared by an old lady talking Spanish. The scene was only shown in theatres. On 17th of October, the official Paranormal Activity YouTube channel uploaded the official Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones trailer, gaining more then 5,3 million views. In November, the official website redesigned and posted two motion posters titled as The Mirror Kid and The Statue Poster. Another official teaser poster was also released that month.DEVELOPMENT
